Position and Presence
The hotel stands on Piazza Vittoria on the lakefront — facing the water, backed by the hills. Built in 1870 as one of Como's most prominent noble residences, it was acquired in 1995 by Orient-Express (later renamed Belmond) and fully renovated in 2021.
The first impression: from Piazza Vittoria, the white neoclassical façade, six Corinthian columns and the pediment above them; behind, the dark peaks of the southern Alps; in front, Lake Como's emerald water holding the reflection. That single view justifies the charter.

The stay: we took a Superior Lake View room. Renovated in 2021, its palette runs warm white, pale grey and Como green — contemporary minimalism balanced against classical detail, without the gilded excess of traditional Italian grand hotels. A custom Beddites mattress, Frette 600-thread-count Egyptian cotton linens, a Valfrutta minibar of local sparkling waters (Belmond's own label) — every detail carries the same message: luxury is not accumulation; it is restraint.
The greatest surprise is the balcony — three square meters of wrought iron facing the lake. At 6:30 in the morning, mist still drifts on the water and the outline of the far shore comes and goes. One espresso, delivered by the hotel, and the beginning of any journey becomes memorable.

Il Palasso — The Lakefront Main Restaurant
On the second floor, floor-to-ceiling windows open onto the lake. Chef Marco Cantisani builds on Lombard tradition with contemporary Italian technique.
