The Plan
Mr. H is an architect. He values precision and rhythm. Even when it came to proposing to his girlfriend, he wanted to get it right — not in the sense of rehearsing every second, but in finding "the right scene," a moment neither of them would ever forget.
He chose the Maldives. Not because it was the conventional proposal destination, but because the Maldives was where he and his girlfriend had taken their first trip abroad together. Five years ago, on a seaplane over Male, they had watched an entire Indian Ocean sunset in silence. He said that day he had wanted to propose but felt unprepared — no ring, no prepared words. As the days went by, the thought stayed with him.
Two months before their fifth anniversary, he contacted his iFlyPlus advisor. His message was simple: "I want to propose in the Maldives. I want to arrive by seaplane, flying in from above, and take out the ring before she knows what's happening."
The Design
After hearing his idea, the advisor asked a few key questions: Does she have a fear of heights? How does she feel about surprises — does she enjoy them or find them uncomfortable? Would you prefer something private or with a sense of ceremony?
Mr. H's answers: She isn't afraid of heights, she likes surprises but not ones that put her on the spot, and he wanted it to be just the two of them.
So the advisor began designing the plan.
The Flight Route
Departing from Male International Airport, the seaplane would fly along a chain of atolls before landing on the lagoon of the resort where they had stayed five years ago. The flight would last approximately forty-five minutes, timed to depart an hour and a half before sunset, so the entire sunset would be visible from the air.
Onboard Arrangement
The seaplane's seating is a face-to-face double-row configuration. The advisor coordinated with the operator in advance to place Mr. H and his girlfriend in the window row. The onboard refrigeration unit had champagne pre-stocked — not the kind posed for photos, but genuinely drinkable, chilled to the right temperature.
The advisor also sent the pilot a signal: when the plane passed the island where they had stayed five years ago, the pilot would say, "That island on the right is quite special — have you been there before?" — a pre-arranged cue designed to draw the girlfriend's attention. Then Mr. H would know it was time to take out the ring.
Ground Coordination
After the seaplane landed, the resort team was already waiting on the beach. They arranged a walkway from the seaplane dock straight to the beach, lined on both sides with white petals — her favorite. At the end of the walkway, a small table held a bottle and two glasses. The wine wasn't the point — the point was the bouquet of white roses hidden beneath the table. Mr. H had mentioned this detail to the advisor when they first spoke.
The Day
April 8, 2026. 3:30 PM. Male International Airport seaplane terminal.
The two boarded the seaplane. The propellers started turning, pushing waves across the water. The plane accelerated, lifted off the surface, climbed. It was the girlfriend's first time on a seaplane, and she pressed excitedly against the window, looking at the atolls below. Mr. H sat across from her, hand in his pocket, touching the small box to confirm it was still there.
Halfway through the flight, the sun began to set. The Indian Ocean's surface turned golden, the atolls' shadows stretching long. The girlfriend kept staring out the window, occasionally letting out a soft "wow." Mr. H wasn't looking at her — he was waiting for the signal.
Then the pilot spoke: "That island on the right is quite special — have you been there before?"
The girlfriend turned and looked. "It seems... somehow familiar."
In that second, Mr. H pulled the ring box from his pocket, opened it, and held it up in front of her.
The girlfriend froze for three seconds. Then she smiled — not a loud, exaggerated smile, but a quiet one, carrying a touch of surprise and a great deal of joy. She said: "You actually remembered."
She was talking about that trip five years ago. She had assumed he had long forgotten.
The plane flew on. Nobody spoke in the cabin — only the sound of the engine and the propellers cutting through the wind. After a while, the girlfriend held out her hand, and Mr. H slipped the ring onto her ring finger. The fit was perfect — he had measured it three months ago while she was asleep.
The Landing
The seaplane touched down on the lagoon, kicking up a spray of white water. The sun had already disappeared below the horizon, and the sky was a gradient from orange to deep rose.
The scene on the beach was exactly as he had imagined. The white roses were barely visible in the twilight, but their scent was already carrying over. The girlfriend bent to smell them, then looked up at him and asked: "How long did you prepare for this?"
He said: "I started preparing five years ago."

Afterword
Later, Mr. H sent the advisor a photo — a close-up of the ring on the girlfriend's hand, with the Maldivian sunset in the background. Attached was one sentence: "She said it was the most perfect five seconds of her life."
The advisor didn't reply with much. She simply said: "Please pass on my congratulations."
After being in this business for a while, there are those moments — when you realize you weren't just configuring a travel arrangement, but building a moment that matters in someone's life. The seaplane, the sunset, the lagoon, the white roses — none of these elements are unusual on their own, but the moment they came together belonged to just those two people.
Good Fortune · Good Friends · Beautiful Life. For Mr. H and his girlfriend, that moment was part of a beautiful life.
